Technology: Welding
Fume Control System
The results of CoSHH LEV and personal air
sampling tests found that the existing welding fume control
systems were ineffective in protecting employees from inhaling
harmful substances during the welding process.
MECHON where commissioned to replace all system to ensure
complained with the CoSHH Regulations.
Four articulated arms were installed in the facility, on
processes requiring extensive coverage with limited fume
generated, primarily TIG welding.
An additional booth was installed to extract fumes generated
during the MIG processes.
The final air sampling results found that the exposure to
hazardous substances was decreased to only ten percent of
the WEL, set under CoSHH EH/40.
